Excellence in Children’s Books
In March, Canberra and region members of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators – SCWBI (affectionately known as Squibby) – got together for a wonderful evening, featuring talks by National Library of Australia publisher Susan Hall, visiting authors Susanne Gervay and Deborah Abela, and NLA authors Gina Newton and Tania McCartney.
As always, it was a value packed evening and well worth the long day.
Book of the Year Shortlist
The following day I headed back to ALIA House with fingers crossed to hear the results for the shortlist for the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Award for 2017. There were quite a few Canberra authors on the longlist (not I!) including friends who were all waiting with baited breath to hear the announcement.
Congratulations to Gina Newton with her very impressive and beautifully designed book, Amazing Animals of Australia's National Parks. We will all be holding our breath for you later in the year, when the winners are announced.
